Hi Gary,

I was reading your log about the Philippines and the chronicles of the artist Wild in his journal where you were able to find the possible location of the photographs. I am able to identify most of the photographs from Manila except one: Bye Canal. And as I said via email I am able to only identify Magellan's tomb from the Cebu album. Do you have any information from any of the journals that contain the possible location of the beach fronts?

Let me know. :)

I did try a few moments ago to upload a photo... all I got in the box was a load of gobbledygook... so I thought I'd done it wrong. Was I?

It looks as if the ones that closely correspond to the originals are already 'paired up', Gary. I didn't think the others that I took are as good as Gus's... do you still want me to re-load them?

I think it will be fine to load it the normal way. Do you have his email address?

Ooops... sorry, I forgot about that! I did put his photo on as an attachment... and he knew when I took it that it would be on the site. Perhaps I should load it in the normal way?

Did you have the GBC interview?

Hi Gill,

Thank you for your efforts and thoughts. I'm glad to hear that some of the images will be easy to find. Not so good that large buildings now stand where the photographer Caleb Newbold once stood. Are the buildings private apartments? Perhaps there is a way to work out the same position despite the building's presence. Then they might let us in to take a photograph. Nothing more dramatic than a photograph of an exterior landscape becoming an interior!

Hope the rains stops. Its cold in Tokyo.

Cheers!

Hi Gary,

Well, I've looked through the images and one or two will be easy to find, photograph and maybe OK to get the same angles. When the rain stops... if it stops... I'll be able to go and do those, probably tomorrow.

However, there are some that would be impossible to photograph from the same spot as large buildings are now in the place where the photographer would have stood. Large scale land reclamation projects have changed the vistas even in the time I've been coming here... about 16 years.

However.. I'll do what I can.

Cheers!
