I found the place at which 46511 shoot.

I posted Seiryoji temple' Photo for 46511, but I felt something different in situation around archtecture.

So I have searched the temple in old Japanese postcards and I found it.

This old architecture burned in 1934 and rebuild in 1944, so the shape is changed little bit but the situation of the building and atmosphere around it have same feeling.

I am curious to see how you compare the building proportions. It might also be useful to make a comparison with the surroundings. Does the structure of the surrounding area still exist, even if it has changed to a car park or building etc?

I also wonder Nagasaki University's data is correct. So I would like to see the building of Nishihonganji. NIshihonganji building don't seem rebuild one. If it is right, building proportion would be same with 46511.

Challenger had to buy materials and chemicals in different countries, so it is possible that they purchased from images from Beato.

Are you sure the Nagasaki University's data is correct. Even if Beato took the picture, the caption accompanying it could be wrong, right? The trees in front of the temple on the postcard image you found look very similar to the trees in the original picture.

Felix Beato worked in Yokohama till 1877. HMS Challenger shipped at Yokohama in 1875 so that they might purchase the album of Japan made by Beato.

Differences felt about Seiryoji is yard in front of the building. It seems little bit so wide that it has not trees and it has old pond. This pond makes me limited angle. This is the feeling at the Seiryoji.

And during my investigation about old photo of Konkai-Komyo-ji temple, I find decisive evidence about 46511 is not Konkai-Komyoji...

this link is Nagasaki-University's old photo database. I found perfectly same photo as 46511!

By this article, 46511 is the part of the album made by Felix Beato and the place is Nishi-Honganji. neither Sheiryoji nor Konkai-Komyoji..It is very difficult to identify the old photo to the place now...

I will be there near days and take photographs.

Could you say more about that feeling? How was the feeling different from the Seiryoji temple?

Btw, what made you choose to shift the the angle? :)
