This picture remains a mystery, but i found some mention of Miwara or 三原市 in the diaries of J.J.Wild. They visited the ruins of a daimyo's castle. Perhaps a photograph like this one was taken around the same place?

The whole sky has been masked out. I was frequently told that this view should feature Mount Rokko very prominently. With the Earthquake flattening this area totally, there would seem little hope in finding this scene again. I tried. Without trying to get the masking of the 130 year old glass plate (and that is extremely unlikely) there is just no way to be absolutely certain of the position of Jesse Lay.
